Anime of Tomorrow
Ikoku Meiro no Croisée Ep 1
Initial impression – calming
Yune is a young Japanese girl way out of her element; working for Claude, the French sign maker. As her calm Japanese demeanor clashes with western zeal and emotion, Yune and Claude start out rough but are able to meet each other halfway by the episode’s conclusion. An understanding begins to form between the two protagonists that might span the chasm between their two worlds.
This in-your-face culture gap is going to be the primary plot point. Whether this is a formula for a successful anime remains to be seen, but I’m optimistic.
Ikoku Meiro no Croisée is one of those feel-good anime that comes up every now and then. It doesn’t have the makings of anything show-stopping, heart-pounding or dramatic. But every so often a small place inside of you that you didn’t know was even there gets moved a little by this type of show. I’m eager to see how this little slice of life turns out at its conclusion.
