Anime of the Week – BTOOOM!
Any story about a survival game that involves life and death is usually going to be an interesting psychological thriller and so far BTOOOM! is doing an excellent job of showing the shades of humanity both good and bad that come to light when it’s all on the line.
October 14 SAO Ep. 15 What a seething situation. How will Kirito reach out to Asuna to bring her back and fulfill the promise they made in game?
Zetsuen no Tempest Ep. 1 Initial impression – revenge served with a side of saving the world
Zetsuen Ep. 2 I had my suspicions about Yoshino and Aika from the start, but this is one of those, “Oh man. What do I do now?” moments.
October 15 Little Busters Ep. 1 Initial impression – oh boy, oh boy, it’s finally here!
October 16 Hayate no Gotoku! Can’t Take My Eyes Off You Ep. 1 Impression – it’s back and who knows? it could be the best one yet
October 17 Total Eclipse Ep. 15 As the second half of the anime starts, seeing the military aspect diminish while the romance side grows bothers me.
Shinsekai Ep. 3 I like how this anime mixes the supernatural with some of the real world perks and consequences of having psychic abilities.
Jormungand: Perfect Order Ep. 1 Initial impression – doesn’t miss a beat
Panzer Ep. 2 When you can have some good, wholesome fun with an all-female cast that doesn’t use ecchi you know you have a good formula.
Robotics;Notes Ep. 1 Initial impression – really just…eh
October 18 Chuunibyou Ep. 3 As an assistant English teacher in Japan, I got a real kick out of Rikka’s attempt at concocting a British personality.
October 20 BTOOOM! Ep. 1 Initial impression – The Most Dangerous Game with bombs
BTOOOM! Ep. 2 It’s always questionable where to draw the line on telling a dramatic story and being distasteful when it comes to rape.
BTOOOM! Ep. 3 The psychology of war is fully on display and it’s not always the strongest that are going to win—often it’s the smartest.
Zetsuen Ep. 3 This is a very interesting concept—magic that’s powered by the works of men. That’s certainly a worthy source of energy.
